This course introduces the legislation and methods of Passage Planning. You will learn how to use an ECDIS effectively to plan voyages on digital systems.

This course will cover IMO passage planning guidance as well as accepted policies for generic use of ECDIS when planning sea voyages.

Who is the course for?

All officers and shipping managers of merchant vessels and fleets.

Upon completion of this course, you will understand the terms EEXI and CII, and the regulatory requirements of the legislation that created them. The course will step through the compliance processes for each aspect, and highlight the challenges faced in ensuring current and future compliance.

Do you know how many different chemicals are used in the engine room of the ships? There are various chemicals supplied to be used on ships. Being useful, the majority of these chemicals onboard have hazards! In general marine chemicals are risky to store, transport and use. Some of these chemicals have health risks, while others are regarded as harmful to the marine environment.

This course will identify the procedures for safe storage and handling of chemicals in the engine room and moreover, discuss the requirements for first aid. During this course, you will learn about: The purpose of the contents of a Material Safety Data Sheet; The health and safety risks presented by chemicals in the engine room; The safe storage conditions for chemicals within the engine room; The safe handling procedures for chemicals in the engine room as well as the emergency first aid procedures related to chemicals used in the engine room.

Who is the course for?

All crew and personnel who work on container ships and/or ships where containers are secured on board for stowage.

Is previous experience required?

It would be an advantage, however, this course acts as an introduction for someone who is about to be trained in container lashing safe use and inspection or for those working on shore in stowage.

This course will give learners an awareness of how containers are secured on board and how the equipment is used and maintained.

The course will ensure that learners are following best practices as detailed in national and international legislation as well as company procedures.

• The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) in respect to carriage of cargo, and the Cargo Securing Manual.

• International Safety Management (ISM) Code &; safety and pollution prevention, emergency procedures including safe handling of cargo and maintenance of lashing equipment.

• International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Is there an assessment?

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 70%.

All personnel who work in a role that may put them at risk of a hand or body injury.

No previous experience is required to complete this course.

This course will provide learners with an introduction on how to prevent hand and body injuries in the workplace.
