Important: Before enrolling, candidates must confirm they have access to a qualified Onboard Assessor meeting the mandatory STCW competence requirements for this course. Training cannot be approved without a compliant assessor. 
The qualified Onboard Assessor MUST have/hold the following:

  • Onboard Assessor or Train the Trainer certificate (STCW A-I/6)

Ship Security Officer certificate (STCW A-VI/5)

Failure to meet the above assessor requirements will result in the training not being approved.

STCW Training programme for courses approved by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA).

This training programme consists of three elements:

  • This eLearning module (ETC: 45 minutes)
  • Practical training onboard (ETC: 3 hours), and
  • The final exam (ETC: 15 minutes)

Please note: The checklist must not be printed and stored as hard copies as the document is subject to review and may be updated at any time. You must use the checklist provided within the Onboard Exercises Module or your submission will be rejected.

Is there an assessment?

The exam includes questions on the theory aspects covered during the initial eLearning AND the activities completed during the onboard assessment. You should not attempt the exam until you have completed both aspects of the training.

 

Certificate:

When the training is completed a certificate is issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

The Norwegian Maritime Authority charge an additional fee to issue the formal STCW Certificate.

Who is this course for?

This FSE High and Low Voltage Training course is suitable for everyone working on low and high voltage installations.

 

Is previous experience required?

You do not need prior knowledge or experience to complete this course, but it is assumed that you are competent in your designated role.

How will this course benefit me?

The course meets the requirements set in Section 7 of the ‘Safety Regulations for Work and Operation of Electrical Equipment and Installations – FSE’ which is that all relevant personnel undertake annual training and instruction in FSE. The course also provides the necessary training and instruction in first aid, focusing on electrical injuries, with the exception of the mandatory practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The regulations of various authorities make FSE applicable to all those working with electricity, whether on board ship, on platforms or on land. This course is suitable for all, regardless of which industry you work in.

The authorities require that training in FSE and first aid in the event of electrical accidents is undertaken at least once a year. No more than 12 months shall elapse between training courses.
