No previous experience is required to complete this course. Basic nautical knowledge including an understanding of terrestrial and electronic navigation as well as practical experience on board are recommended.

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 70%.

In this course, we will learn about Generators (Alternators); Power Distribution to users; Synchronisation; Safety; and uncommon Maintenance issues. All these are from a practical perspective to help the Engineer deal with situations on board.

The course will give you in-depth knowledge of the Principles of Generators; Synchronisation; understanding of Wiring Diagrams; the Power triangle; Safety protection devices; uncommon maintenance issues; and an overview of Power Management Systems. This will help you gain confidence in managing and dealing with problems with these devices, and in improving your knowledge to help you grow professionally.
