Welcome to the course on Know Your Health & Safety Responsibilities for Health and Safety Managers. In the 21st century’s post-pandemic world, the best companies are going beyond their legal duties of meeting OSHA compliance requirements. Many organizations are striving to create a culture of safety. By going above and beyond legal requirements, companies are communicating that the health and safety of employees is paramount. Effective workplace programs, policies, and environments that are health-focused and worker-centered have the potential to significantly benefit employers, employees, their families, and communities. As Health and Safety Managers and Supervisors, you play a critical role in ensuring that the organization’s health and safety programs are being followed at all times. You also play a critical role in bridging the communication on health and safety issues from employees to the organization’s senior management.

In this course you will learn:

• The responsibilities and roles of supervisors and workers in organizational health and safety

• About the responsibilities of supervisors and workers in hazard identification, assessment and control, safety and health inspections, and accident reporting and investigation

Workplace is a place where individuals from diverse backgrounds, varied educational qualifications and different interests come together to strive and work towards a greater goal. This also means that organizational dynamics can be complex and could sometimes be difficult to interpret for the employees. Workplace politics is one such phenomenon that tends to creep in when the workplace dynamics are complex. In this course, you will learn about what workplace politics is, its effects and the ways to avoid it.

According to David Grossman’s report, “The Cost of Poor Communications”, which included 400 large companies and 100,000 employees, the cost of communication barriers that arise in the workplace costs a whopping $62.4 million per year, per company. These numbers increase even more if we take some additional consequences into account, such as breached deadlines, mental and emotional health, retention rates, and so on and so forth. As workplaces evolve socially and technologically, interpersonal skills which help in collaboration, problem-solving, and effective decision-making, are crucial, now more than ever.
