How will the course benefit my company?

Employers are now incorporating seafarer’s soft skills into their crewing decisions. The soft, ‘non-technical skills’ are increasingly important on board due to the rapidly changing workforce and automation of technical tasks. Additionally, maritime accident investigations indicate that a lack of soft skills and human error is the most common reason behind accidents at sea.

This course does not refer to specific legislation or standards.

Is there an assessment?

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 70%.

STCW Training programme for courses approved by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA).

This training programme consists of three elements:

• This eLearning module (ETC: 45 minutes)

• Practical training onboard (ETC: 15.5 hours), and

• The final exam (ETC: 30 minutes)

Who is this course for?

Any person conducting an in-service assessment of the competence of an onoboard candidate.

Is previous experience required?

 Documented 12 months sea service in an officer position is required. 

How will this course benefit me?

The aim of this course is to enable you to supervise  training and monitor the competence of seafarers. A seafarer's competence must meet the standards of the STCW Code.

How will this course benefit my company?

By ensuring you are qualified and certified as an Onboard Assessor.

Is there an assessment?

The exam includes questions on the theory aspects covered during the initial eLearning AND the activities completed during the onboard assessment. You should not attempt the exam until you have completed both aspects of the training.

Certificate:

When the training is completed a certificate is issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

The Norwegian Maritime Authority charge an additional fee to issue the formal STCW Certificate.

Safe Manual Handling is critical in the workplace in order to reduce injury as much as possible. In this course, we cover in detail why manual handling is so important and how to achieve this safely within the workplace. We will cover all vital aspects including how to properly assess manual handling requirements and team capability.

Learning Outcomes for this Manual Handling course are to:

1. Understand the reasons for safe manual handling.

2. Understand how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety.

3. Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety.

4. Be able to apply safe manual handling principles.

Who is the course for?

Personnel who require an understanding of major accidents in the maritime industry.

Is previous experience required?

No previous experience is required to complete this course.

This course will provide you with an introduction to major accident hazards.

How will the course benefit my company?

This course will provide personnel with an introduction to major accident hazards and the role that they play in the mitigation of catastrophic events.

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 70%.

Personnel involved in the design, construction and maintenance of small bore tubing systems.

Is previous experience required?

You do not need prior knowledge or experience to complete this course.

This course aims to introduce, develop and increase learners’ knowledge and awareness of industry best practice for working on small bore tubing systems.

How will this course benefit my company?

By ensuring you have the required knowledge and awareness of the design, construction and maintenance of small bore tubing systems.

What standards are referred to in this course?

This course does not refer to specific legislation or standards but is written according to industry best practice.

Is there an assessment?

Once you have completed each section, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the section and have a pass mark of 80%. Each section must be completed and passed in turn.
