Social media has become an integral part of life on a ship. However, there is a responsibility that comes with the crew's opportunity to access and use social media; this is rarely discussed or questioned.

This course is about the responsible use of social media. It presents some irresponsible social media practices and their corresponding legal charges. It also provides tips on how to utilise social media in an objective and responsible manner.

Navigators, both professional and enthusiasts.

Is previous experience required?

No previous experience is required to complete this course.

How will the course benefit me?

Lighthouses, buoys and navigational aids are indispensable to the mariner; however, they are only as useful as the ability of the mariner to read them. Apart from being able to read and understand the different marks, one must also appreciate the limitations of such marks, to make a full appraisal and a complete risk assessment during all stages of voyage planning.

How will the course benefit my company?

By providing crew with an understanding of the general principles of the system, the different IALA regions and the meaning of each type of buoy (including their top marks and lights).

• The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 

• Recommendation R1001 The IALA Maritime Buoyage System

This course will cover the Collision Regulations as per the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (COLREGs).

In this course, you will watch videos where the instructor tackles all the rules and explains them in detail. Rule 1 to Rule 37 will be covered. This is designed to present the Rules of the Road information in a practical, no-nonsense way to aid students in studying for their exams.

STCW Training programme for courses approved by the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA).

This training programme consists of three elements:

• This eLearning module (ETC: 75 minutes)

• Practical training onboard (ETC: 6.5 hours), and

• The final exam (ETC: 15 minutes)

All crew with responsibility for assisting with passenger and crisis management during an emergency.

No previous experience is required to complete this course.

By ensuring personnel are aware of how they should respond in an emergency to ensure passenger safety.

• The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL)

• Cargo Stowage and Securing (CSS) Code

• International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW)

Is there an assessment?

The exam includes questions on the theory aspects covered during the initial eLearning AND the activities completed during the onboard assessment. You should not attempt the exam until you have completed both aspects of the training.

Certificate:

When the training is completed, a certificate is issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

The Norwegian Maritime Authority charge an additional fee to issue the formal STCW Certificate.
