The NEBOSH General Certificate focuses on the role of a real-life health and safety professional. It looks at the real, everyday risks that people encounter and how to manage them to help protect people and profits. 

 

You'll develop the essential risk management skills to create a safe and healthy workplace. And, you’ll have the foundation knowledge to make recommendations to your employer to help them improve health and safety management.

 

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

 

• Justify health and safety improvements using moral, financial and legal arguments

• Summarise the main health and safety duties of employers and workers in HSWA 1974 and MHSWR 1999

• Advise on the main duties for health and safety in the workplace and help their organisation manage contractors

• Work within a health and safety management system, recognising what effective policy, organisational responsibilities and arrangements should look like

• Positively influence health and safety culture and behaviour to improve performance in their organisation

• Do a general risk assessment in their own workplace – profiling and prioritising risks, inspecting the workplace, recognising a range of common hazards, evaluating risks (taking account of current controls), recommending further control measures, planning actions

• Recognise workplace changes that have significant health and safety impacts and effective ways to minimise those impacts

• Develop basic safe systems of work (including taking account of typical emergencies) and knowing when to use permit-to-work systems for special risks

• Take part in incident investigations

• Help their employer to check their management system effectiveness – through monitoring, audits and reviews

This course has been developed to provide learners with an understanding of the importance of employee relations, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace, how they fit within an ESG strategy, and strategies to identify unconscious bias and create a more inclusive workplace culture.

This course aims to provide an overview of managing hydrocarbon releases

This course covers the following learning objectives:

LO1 Describe the history of the hydrocarbon release risk reduction process

LO2 Describe safety instrumented systems

LO3 Describe the introduction of control of work procedures

LO4 Describe isolation procedures

LO5 Describe fire and gas detection systems

LO6 Describe hydrocarbon release reporting

LO7 Describe how different hydrocarbon fluids behave on release and describe how hydrocarbon mixtures may undergo a phase change

LO8 Explain the dangers of exposure to hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and identify the symptoms of H2S poisoning

LO9 Describe the range of leak rates that can occur with the different types of failure

In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of visual signalling, including the basics of flag hoist, flashing light, and other types of signalling. Then, we will dive deeper into flashing light signalling, including memorising Morse Code and interpreting flashing light codes for single-letter, two-letter, and three-letter codes. We will interpret code signals using the International Code of Signals. This course uses USA maritime publications but is applicable to all STCW mariners. For an additional charge, you can also take the final online exam in an approved USA maritime training facility leading to a US Coast Guard-approved certificate.
