Climate change is a natural process. However, due to the burning of fossil fuels at an unprecedented rate, humans have caused accelerated climate change. This is evident from the fact that the Earth is now warmer by nearly 2C as compared to pre-industrial times. Also, by looking at the C02 levels, we can see that emissions were in the range of 280 ppm in the 18th century as compared to 440 ppm today. So why is climate change important for ESG investing? Climate change causes billions of dollars in losses each year. Ever heard of billion-dollar storms? Billion-dollar storms are extreme weather events that cause at least 1 Bn dollars in damage. Hurricane Harvey that hit Houston in 2017 caused damages amounting to USD 125 Bn. Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico caused 90 Mn in damages. Each year, over 90 such events are experienced across the world. ESG investing has the power to systemically slow down climate change while making profits.

Welcome to the course on ESG and Sustainable Investing. ESG has become a trending buzzword in the financial world. Short for Environmental, Social and Governance, ESG criteria are increasingly being used as a way to measure the broader impact of a business on the world. In recent years, ESG investments have been on the rise. However, due to a lack of standardization, it can be tricky to decipher the ESG ratings of a company. Between different rating agencies, variable weightage is given to different aspects of a business which could make one company highly ESG compliant according to one agency and award a low rating to the same company. This course takes a look at the ways in which an investor can decode the ESG ratings of a company and make an informed decision while investing.

This training is meant for:

• Individual Investors

• Business Leaders

• Compliance Professionals

• Financial Advisors

• Business Consultants

• Anyone who is interested in learning about ESG In this course

You will learn:

• The meaning of ESG

• ESG factors to consider when investing

• How ESG ratings are awarded by agencies

• Pros and Cons of investing in ESG stocks

• ESG Investment Instruments

Strict regulations and procedures exist for the safe and efficient operation of ships and yachts - and UK regulations and procedures may differ from those you may be familiar with in other flag vessels. This guide mainly deals with issues specific to yachts, such as operations and manning standards, and what to do about them.

This online course will help you to comply with UK requirements by focusing on the guidelines set out in 'A Master's Guide to the UK Flag (Large Yacht Edition 3)', released by the UK DfT Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

This course aims to allow the learner to train themselves in vital regulation and procedures in the most efficient way possible - by studying each of the 14 subjects in this course, with learning consolidated via confirmation and assessment questions.

Presentation

This training course describes the various elements of the ship's structure, the loads acting on the structure and the required strength of the ship's structure to sustain such loads.

Objectives

On completion of the training, students will be able to:

Know the typical structural arrangements of different ship types. Understand stiffened panels as the fundamental structural units in ship structures and know the different framing systems used in ship construction

Know the different types of loads acting on the ship's structure and understand the static sea pressure and the wave induced dynamic sea pressure. Understand the concept of net loading on the ship's structure, shear forces and bending moments. Get familiar with fatigue loads

Understand the stresses on ship's structure including longitudinal stresses on hull girder, stresses on primary supporting structure and local stresses and the strength of the ships structure. Get familiar with fatigue strength and understand the corrosion and the net scantling approach.

Program

Module 1 – Elements of Ship Structure

Main ship types

Materials used in shipbuilding

Structural elements: Plating, profiles, stiffened panels, midship section, web frame

Framing systems: Longitudinal framing, mixed framing, transverse framing

Breakdown of ship structures: Double bottom, side shell, deck, bulkheads, engine room structure, peak tanks

Module 2 – Loads on Ship Structure

Classification of loads acting on ship structure

Static and dynamic loads

Sea pressure

Internal loads

Net load on structure

Bending moment and shear force

Alternate loading condition

Module 3 – Strength of Ship Structure

Ship structural strength

Stress classification

Spreading of loads through the ships structure

Hull girder strength

Strength of primary structure

Finite element modelling analysis

Strength of plates and stiffeners: Stress check, section modulus, buckling strength

Fatigue strength

Net scantling approach

Certificate

On completion of the training program, the student will be awarded:

A Certificate of Ship's Structure Fundamentals, issued by Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore.

The Certificate of Ship's Structure Fundamentals is obtained after completing the course and passing the online test.

Starting a new life as a student in a new and different city or country is very exciting, and while most students will have a perfectly safe and crime-free experience, it is a fact that one third of students will be a victim of crime of one sort or another during their time at college or university. The most common crimes are theft and robbery, followed by incidents involving violent physical or sexual assault. Statistics show that an estimated 20 per cent of student robberies/muggings occur in the first six weeks of the academic year, when students are distracted with settling in.

By far the best defence is to always use common sense and awareness when in any situation, therefore this course aims to instill in the candidate an awareness that will keep them, their property, and the people around them, safe. The knowledge and preparation gained from this course can help a student to navigate their way confidently into their new life and dramatically reduce the probability of becoming a victim of crime.
