Description:
Participants will learn about the different levels of autonomy in ships, the technological systems that enable these vessels to operate with minimal or no human intervention, and how autonomous ships optimise navigation, safety, and fuel efficiency. The course explores advanced AI, sensor integration, RCCs, and emergency response systems vital for MASS operations. Students will also examine real-world case studies like the YARA Birkeland and the Mayflower Autonomous Ship while understanding the maritime industry's regulatory and ethical challenges as it moves toward greater automation.
