Art Management: Copyright

Course information

Target group:

Intended for Masters and interior personnel onboard superyachts, Owners and handlers of fine arts.

Description:

Copyright is also called Intellectual Property and applies widely to all creations. There are many other forms of 'IP' such as inventions - I'm sure you've heard of patents. There are many types of copyright. This course discusses the creative arts: Painting, Writing, Composing, Arranging, Performing, Photography, Film, and Fonts. We also focus heavily on the artist's reproduction. It is essential to understand the basics of artists' or creators' rights to avoid infringing copyright. If your employer or an owner possesses a painting, it does not necessarily mean they can treat it as such in every way. Some regulations may still apply to the artwork to protect the artist or photographer. When thinking about copyright, it is always best to imagine that you are the creator of the painting or art form. Would you find the intended use acceptable? This includes the subject, person or company you may associate the artwork with.
